w.g. and i toured ca & ok, usa. it was good times from minute 1, starting in our bed and breakfast. they had this unusual welcome-note on the pillows reading
Dear Guests,
Recently we’ve experienced unwanted calls to guest rooms, most often in the middle of the night, some of a sexual nature. We hope to help this pathetic individual obtain professional help, with the assistance of the Abuse Center at ATT&T.
If you receive such a call, please note the time on this sheet – as precisely as possible to the minute – then bring it to the innkeeper on duty at your next opportunity. AT&T will take it from there.
If you don’t anticipate receiving any calls to your room phone, we suggest you unplug the phone to avoid having your sleep disturbed. We hope to end this individual’s unusual hobby as soon as possible, and we apologize for his behavior.

somehow the friendly formulated warning did make me feel welcome and at home. i almost wished to receive a nightly call. just out of curiosity of course. i bet there is a market for the practices of “this pathetic individual”. so was this a warning or an offer in disguise? (kp)
